Summary of presentation- Title- Dehydration of Foods- An Overview

 

Dr Sandhya started with the details involved in the basics of dehydration and the present scenario involved in regards to the dehydrated foods in markets. Normal drying curve was explained in brief with a video PowerPoint presentation which was very useful in memorizing the concepts of dehydration. She then took over to explain the various types of driers that are more frequently used in laboratories and also commercial fields. Cost effective and efficiency were the key points to be considered while selecting the drier for any commercial or laboratory usage.

She has explained in brief with respect to the BBC graduates how the driers are selected, mechanism of the drier working, structure and principle involved. She also focused to show the photographs that are clicked during live processing done in research laboratories.

 

Then effects involved in the foods during this dehydration process were explained. changes are common to notice when food are being exposed at such high temperatures. So in order to minimalize the damage to be caused certain precautionary measures are also discussed by the speaker. She winded up the session with a brief sum-up of all the slides she has presented.

To honor women’s immense strength and unique abilities this is to uphold feminist values and celebrate womanhood to the fullest. International women’s day are recognized for their achievements. To mark a call to action for accelerating gender equality. On this occasion the department of BBC is here with fun filled activities. Compeittion were conducted online- singing coemptition, Just a Minute and Poster making and Guess her. Good response has come and the winners are as follows.

 A Rally was organized in collaboration with Student Council from 12.15 pm till 1.0 pm

The rally was conduced in the campus and was joined by the Principal Dr Sr Shyji PD, Counsil head- Prof. PK Jayalakshmi, Head of the Dept of Botany Dr Manikya Kumari, Student counsil advisors, students members of student consil, students of BBC, faculty- Dr P. Mary Anupama, Dr Mousami Shankar Addala, Dr Veerabrahmam , Dr Rajya Lakshmi, Mrs Prameela and other faculty. All the second year and final year students have participated in the rally along with members from all final years classes of BA, BSc, B Com and BBA steams .

The event was led by the principal and students cousil with students in special attire representing various roles of women.

Attires: Scientist-Priyanka Reddy, Doctor-Purnima, Boxer-Shahin, Karate-Rooth Parimala, Cricketer-Piyusha, Chef-Keziah, Badminton-Sindusha, Lawyer-Navya, Actress-Amulya, Student-Vaishnavi, Engineer-Mohana, Mother-Neha, Teacher- Lavanya.

Placards with different slogans and captions are displayed to bring awareness on gender equality, rights of girl child and to encourage women

 

Lastly – Miss Renuka, Miss Sireesha ,Miss Priyanka, Miss Mounika have performed a dance in salute to women

 

The students who have taken active part in the event were given special appreciation certificates by the department of Biochemistry and also were nominated to receive Nehru Yuva Kendra certificates.

Certificates were given away by Prof. P K Jayalakshmi, HOD , Dept of second languagues , SJC, Prof. Mangaveni, HOD, Dept. of Chemistry, Mrs Harini, HOD, Dept. of Zoology and Dr Veerabrahmam, Incharge, Dept of Biotechnology, along with Dr P. Mary Anupama and Dr Mousami Shankar Addala of Department of Biochemistry

Activity of Biomusketeers club- Test your bond

 

BIOMUSKETEERS CLUB

REPORT ON “TEST YOUR BOND”

Dates- (1-03-2021 & 2-03-2021) 

Venue- Biotechnology Lab

Bonds filled with love and affection cannot be broken. On the occasion of NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY the club of BIOMUSKETEERS have conducted a completely fun based activity that is “TEST YOUR BOND”.  It is a word guessing game where a pair of students will participate, one among which is shown an image related to science and have to enact the picture to the other person through body language, facial gestures but without any lip movement, within allotted time. Students from all the departments have showed their active participation. The event took place on (1-03-20201) for the 2nd and 3rd years and (2-03-2021) for 1st years, it commenced at 12:15PM and continued till 1:00PM.

This event was successful enough with more than 100 participants. Those teams which have guessed the word right with shortest time possible were given acknowledgment in the form of certificates. It was another successful event added to the count and many more are on the way!
